After two exciting qualifying sessions, Brigliadori/Alcidi (Audi RS3 LMS) are the first pole sitters of the 2025 TCR European Endurance season: following the sum of the times from the two sessions, the Italian pair set the fastest overall time with a 4:39.412, enabling them to claim pole position at the Mugello Circuit. In the first ever wet qualifying session in the history of the series promoted by Mauricio Slaviero, BF Motorsport thus took home pole on their debut in the championship.
Q1 saw the drivers handle a wet track, following a short rain spell before the start of the session. After excelling in similar conditions during FP2, it was Yuri Brigliadori who set the quickest lap time thanks to a 2:15.496, with the #6 Cupra driven by Salvatore Tavano in second position; third was the DSG class leader Senna Summerbell, with the second Wimmer Werk Motorsport car. Sandro Pelatti finished fourth for PMA Motorsport, as he got the better of the Gen-1 car of İbrahim Okyay by just 0.151s.
The second qualifying session then took place half an hour later, with further changes to the track conditions after other series turned in laps in between the two sessions and a light drizzle coming into play at the start of Q2. This time, it was Eric Scalvini who set the fastest lap of 2:21.796 – a time that highlights how the rain worsened the track’s conditions. Behind him, Franco Girolami brought PMA Motorsport to a weekend-high second position, 0.418s off his rival. Alessandro Alcidi finished third, while fourth position, as well as the DSG lead, was claimed by Tuder Motorsport’s Emilio Damante. The Italian’s efforts meant that Senna Summerbell could only settle for fifth position overall, which gave him second place in the DSG class.
Ultimately, it was the BF Motorsport pair of Brigliadori/Alcidi who claimed pole position, thus starting off their 2025 title campaign in the best way. After topping the standings in FP1, the efforts of Scalvini/Tavano (Cupra Leon Competicion) were good enough for second place, the Wimmer Werk Motorsport duo missing out by 0.548s. PMA Motorsport had to settle for third, a result that still enables Pelatti/Girolami (Audi RS3 LMS) to fight for success on Sunday. The DSG pole went to Senna Summerbell (Cupra Leon DSG), as the Jamaican confirms his great start to the season after his promising results in both free practice sessions.
The Wimmer Werk Motorsport driver was able to beat Gen-1 pole sitters Çiftçi/Okyay (Audi RS3 Gen-1), who finished in fifth position overall: this means that all three classes will be represented in the top-5 on the opening race’s starting grid. Thanks to their great Q2 performance, Damante/Maccari (Audi RS3 DSG) scored sixth position in the overall standings, narrowly having the better of teammates Alcidi/Giovannoni (VW Golf GTI DSG). TEXACO Team AMS will line up in eighth with Kalpaklıoğlu/Özen (Audi RS3 DSG), as Faro Racing rounded out the top-10; Cuppari/Verrocchio (VW Golf GTI DSG) will start from ninth on the grid, with Stefano Moretti (VW Golf GTI DSG) behind them in tenth.
With Saturday’s sessions now in the books, the spotlight turns to Sunday, March 30th, when the opening race of the 2025 TCR European Endurance season is going to take place with two stages of 55 minutes plus one lap, where teams will be performing at least one pit stop per stage, with a minimum duration of two minutes and 15 seconds. Stage 1 is set to begin at 8:45 local time, whereas Stage 2 will see the green flag waived at 17:25 local time. Both stages will be broadcast live on TCR TV’s official YouTube channel, with commentary provided by Daniele Spadi.
