MM Motorsport officially joins the roster of teams that will be on the grid in the upcoming season of the TCR European Endurance, relying on the experience of Luca Rangoni. MM Motorsport will debut the Honda Civic FK7 in the continental championship, marking another chapter in its long-standing relationship with the Japanese brand. The first driver to be announced is the veteran Luca Rangoni, who brings with him an extensive experience in motorsport, crucial for a team debuting in the series that aims to perform well from the very first kilometers.
Following his triumph in open-wheel racing in Italian Formula 3 in 1995, Rangoni moved to the world of touring cars, dominating the International Trophy with the Renault Clio 3000 V6 between 2000 and 2003, eventually reaching the top of touring car competitions. The Italian driver competed in the world championship with another generation of cars, taking part in the 2005 and 2006 seasons of the World Touring Car Championship (WTCC), open to Super 2000, Diesel 2000, and Super Production Cars. On both occasions, he managed to achieve two absolute podiums in Valencia and two more in Zandvoort, finishing twice in second place in the Yokohama Trophy, behind the legend Tom Coronel and, in 2006, his compatriot Stefano D’Aste, with just half a point separating them. Despite that, the Bolognese driver’s need for racing has never stopped, as he got to know the current technical regulations in the 2018 TCR Italy reaching the podium at Imola, proceeding with a completely innovative project: a Fiat Tipo TCR built and worked entirely in-house.
Luca Rangoni
“The TCR European Endurance is a quite appealing growing championship. It is the highest level in the Old Continent for touring endurance races and has very high potential. I am delighted to be able to wear the helmet again with a valid and competitive program, and I must thank MM Motorsport. Years go by but I still want to race. It’s a new challenge against young and fast opponents, and I am looking for it to begin! For me, racing is the most beautiful passion in the world, that relaxes me the most. The seasons pass by but that feeling and adrenaline never go away.”
Emanuele Alborghetti, Team Principal
“Being able to work with a champion like Luca is priceless. With his experience and his raw pace, he will allow all of us to quickly take measurements with this championship, leading the team in a season that promises to be really exciting. MM Motorsport has embraced the TCR project from day one and over the years we have always been related to the Honda brand, which we have written important pages of this sport with, such as when we achieved the first world victory of the new Civic FL5. We can’t wait to start this new adventure in an international context like TCR European Endurance.”
A new chapter lies ahead in Rangoni’s long career thanks to the partnership with MM Motorsport, managed for over 15 years by Emanuele Alborghetti and Gianna Aiello, which may seem like a winning combination from the start. The union of these two realities of Italian and international motorsport projects the next season of the TCR European Endurance – starting at Mugello on March 30, 2025 – onto a new dimension.
