The CUPRA Leon was named the 2025 TCR Model of the Year. This prestigious accolade, awarded by WSC, is based on a classification that takes into account the results achieved by all TCR-certified cars in all TCR-sanctioned races held during the season.
In 2025, a total of 314 races awarded points for the Model of the Year classification. The CUPRA Leon, in its Competición and VZ versions, scored 6,150.75 points and 78 race wins thanks to 659 starts across 19 TCR-sanctioned series. The most outstanding achievements included the titles in TCR Europe with Jenson Brickley for Monlau Motorsport, TCR México with Juan Pablo Sierra for Centur Silen Racing, and TCR UK with Adam Shepherd for Capture Motorsport, as well as the three race wins achieved by Aurélien Comte and SP Compétition in the Kumho FIA TCR World Tour. In addition, Giovanni Scamardi clinched the TC France title for SP Compétition, while the Leon cars also secured victories in other series, including three in TCR Spain, three in TCR South America, and two in the IMSA Challenge.
The CUPRA Leon Competición of Salvatore Tavano and Eric Scalvini recorded two wins, two pole positions, two podium finishes, and five stage wins. These results reflect a dominant championship, although the Wimmer Werk Motorsport duo faced some misfortune in the early part of the season. After two consecutive retirements due to technical issues at the Mugello and Slovakiaring events, their strongest performances came in the second half of the season. They enjoyed a perfect weekend at Vallelunga, scoring maximum points with pole positions and victories in both stages, while at Misano they reaffirmed their title ambitions thanks to a second consecutive pole position and a fifth stage win early in the race. In total, five stage victories — including Stage 1 at Mugello and Stage 2 at Slovakiaring — meant they won more than 50% of the stages contested during the championship. The Italian duo’s pace was also confirmed in qualifying, with their worst result being a fourth-place start at Slovakiaring, while at their home events they consistently secured front-row positions.
