Italian duo for Wimmer Werk Motorsport: Scalvini-Tavano on the hunt for the title

From Jamaica to Italy. After announcing a full Jamaican lineup, Wimmer Werk Motorsport reveals that Salvatore Tavano and Eric Scalvini will drive the Cupra Competicion TCR with a sequential gearbox for the 2025 TCR European Endurance season. The Austrian team, based in Fischamend, is doubling its efforts for its debut in the European endurance touring series, following the recent announcement of their first entry in the DSG class. Wimmer Werk Motorsport has extensive experience with Cupra, having already raced with the Iberian manufacturer in the TCR Italy.

The reasoning behind the lineup choice for their second entry is clear: the Austrian team is prioritizing experience. Salvatore Tavano is a TCR Italy multi champion, having won the championship from 2018 to 2020 and having a long-standing connection with Cupra, having driven it in all its versions on national territory.

The Sicilian driver is a key figure in the international touring competitions, having reached its peak in the early 2000s. Tavano will once again compete with Luca Rangoni, who raced with him in the 2006 WTCC season – the year in which the newly signed Wimmer Werk Motorsport driver claimed a world championship victory in the Puebla round. In 2023 he finished second in the Campionato Italiano GT Endurance Pro-AM Championship, and the experience gained there will help him make the necessary transition from a sprint series like TCR Italy to the one promoted by Mauricio Slaviero.

His teammate for this new adventure is Eric Scalvini: born in 1995, the driver from Lombardia will actually celebrate his birthday during the first round in Mugello. He comes from experience with GT4 cars, competing in the GT4 European Series and ADAC GT4 Germany, although he has also had the opportunity to drive the Cupra TCR over the years, during the 2021 ADAC TCR Germany and previously in TCR Italy, with the DSG version. Scalvini came close to winning the title in the Italian series, finishing the 2017 season in second place after 3 victories and 8 podiums.

Wimmer Werk Motorsport will hit the track at Mugello on March 30, bringing both quantity and quality to the grid.

Eric Scalvini
“I’m very happy to be back to my origins, front wheel drive touring cars, the category where I started and grew up. Doing it with Wimmer Werk is an even bigger incentive, as I’ve raced with them during the past years and I feel at home. With Felix and Max, there is great mutual respect and trust. I have always received maximum support and have always given my all to repay them with the best results. I’m also happy to be able to race in this young but very interesting series, where Emanuele and Mauricio are working hard to do things in the best way possible. I’m sure we will have fun and I can’t wait to race in Mugello!”

Salvatore Tavano
I can’t wait to start my ambitious campaign in the TCR European Endurance, a championship that will also bring me outside the national tracks. A special thanks goes to my teammate Eric, to all the sponsors and to the team, Wimmer Werk Motorsport, who thought about me at the right time and worked to find the perfect agreement”.
