After a convincing first season that featured a brand new format in touring car racing history, TCR European Endurance is set to continue down its innovating path in 2025: the series promoted by Mauricio Slaviero will be debuting a new points system for the new season, which further underlines the championship’s intention to provide a refreshing and competitive format to make racing more accessible and closer than ever.
The 2025 scoring structure is an evolution of last year’s system, which awarded points based on the drivers’ qualifying performance and the sum of the two stages’ results. In the new TCR European Endurance season, drivers will also earn points for each stage separately, following the official combined results of the two legs. Studied to the finest details during the winter, the new format is set to ensure closer battles in the championship’s standings; a potential issue during one of the two stages will now be less of a disadvantage, and it will still enable teams to take home valuable points during the race weekend. In particular, Stage 2 will now become more important than ever, since its result will now give out points just like a standalone race, while also contributing to the final standings of the race weekend.
The new scoring system is set to make its debut during the opening round of the 2025 TCR European Endurance season, taking place around the Autodromo Internazionale del Mugello on March 30th.
Mauricio Slaviero
“After deep talks with teams and drivers at the end of last season, we got the feedback that a different scoring system could make things even more interesting, especially if we could mitigate the fear of not scoring points in one of the five race weekends. The new points structure will make both stages more interesting; the teams are liking the new idea, and we can’t wait to get things going in Mugello for round one of the 2025 season.”
